HS2, the United Kingdom’s high-speed rail project, has opened two new bridges near the town of Leamington Spa in central England. The Fosse Way bridge carries a key local road (B4455) across the new railway, while the nearby Offchurch Greenway bridge provides a dedicated route for pedestrians and cyclists along a former railway line between Leamington and Rugby. The new structures are part of HS2’s programme to maintain community links and improve transport connectivity during construction of the national rail corridor.
Both bridges were delivered by HS2’s main works contractor, Balfour Beatty VINCI. The Fosse Way bridge measures 78 metres in length and includes a pedestrian footpath, while the 68-metre Greenway bridge features grass verges to encourage wildlife movement. Their completion allows work to progress on the railway cutting beneath.
“It’s great to see the Fosse Way and Offchurch Greenway bridges open to the public within a few days of each other. These bridges may be relatively small, but they play a vital role in keeping communities connected,” said Vicki Lee, Senior Project Manager, HS2 Ltd.
