BASF Advances Building Insulation with Cavipor®

BASF has introduced an innovative material class to the insulation market with its clay foam product, Cavipor®. Originally developed for energy-efficient renovation of buildings with double-wall masonry, Cavipor has recently received approval for insulating floor slabs and roofs. This mineral-based insulation system offers thermal protection across the entire building envelope and is designed to be easy to transport and apply, with minimal dust or fibre emissions. The foam expands on site, filling cavities evenly, while its non-flammable, water-repellent, and vapour-permeable properties contribute to building durability and indoor air quality.

The product is already in use across Europe through a network of distributors in Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, and the UK, with around 2,000 homes insulated to date. Cavipor meets stringent emission standards and can be recycled or disposed of with standard construction waste, supporting sustainable building practices. Its classification in the thermal conductivity group 035 highlights its energy efficiency benefits. BASF’s approach exemplifies a commitment to advancing green transformation in the construction sector.

“By establishing clay foam to the insulation market, we are setting a new benchmark for energy-efficient renovation solutions. Cavipor is a unique material that delivers substantial and sustainable benefits to the building insulation industry. It underscores BASF’s strong commitment to supporting the green transformation of the various customer industries we serve,” said Dr Ramkumar Dhruva, President of BASF’s Monomers division.
