Mammoet has completed a specialised heavy-lifting and transport scope on Singapore’s Pulau Tekong Polder development, supporting the retrieval and relaunching of dredging equipment used in the country’s first polder project. The work formed part of the wider empoldering scheme led by the Housing Development Board and constructed by the Boskalis Penta Ocean Joint Venture, which has created around 800 hectares of new land through a dike-and-drain approach requiring significantly less fill material than conventional reclamation. To allow dredging assets to continue operations after a stormwater collection pond was completed, twelve barges weighing between 680 and 990 tonnes had to be recovered from the inland water body, moved across newly built haul roads and launched back into the sea.
To undertake this, Mammoet deployed a combination of airbags, winches, jacking systems and SPMTs, drawing on experience with similar retrieval and launching operations internationally. Each barge was extracted, elevated for equipment change-out and transported to the launch point in a sequenced process that continued despite variable weather conditions.
“We take immense pride in our role within the Tekong Polder project. By leveraging our global expertise, we helped enhance Singapore's geographical footprint,” said Anandan Lokantham, Sales Manager, Mammoet Projects AMEA.
