Clariant is marking 50 years since the launch of its Exolit AP flame retardants, first produced in 1975. Based on ammonium polyphosphate (APP) technology, Exolit AP has been used in a range of fire protection applications including intumescent coatings, fire barrier sealants, insulation foams and thermoset composites. The company says the product line continues to evolve in response to changing safety and environmental standards.
Recent developments include the introduction of a melamine-free grade of Exolit AP, which is free of substances of very high concern (SVHC) and designed to meet growing demand for safer, more sustainable fire protection solutions. This version is being used in passive fire protection systems and insulation applications, with further enhancements to the Exolit AP 435 product line also underway.
“Through changing times and evolving industry needs, Exolit AP has remained at the forefront of innovation. From its origins in Hoechst AG to becoming a cornerstone of Clariant's portfolio in 1997, each decade has brought new challenges and achievements.” said Clariant’s Head of Market Segment Passive Fire Protection, Achim Hennemann.
