Ericsson Expands 5G Infrastructure in Japan

Ericsson has deepened its collaboration with SoftBank Corp. through a new agreement to supply 4G and 5G network equipment for infrastructure upgrades across multiple Japanese regions. The rollout includes enhancements to existing mobile networks and the expansion of 5G Standalone coverage, using Ericsson’s Radio System portfolio to support low, mid and high band frequencies.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will provide advanced radio units and high-capacity compute systems designed to improve network performance, streamline operations with AI, and cut energy use. These infrastructure solutions are intended to support long-term connectivity needs across Japan’s evolving digital landscape.

"SoftBank has been at the forefront of connectivity engagement through every generation of mobility. As digitalization ramps up, Ericsson will work closely with SoftBank in our strengthened partnership to help drive its digital leadership ambitions through improved end-user experiences, AI and automation. This will also support SoftBank's role in helping Japan to achieve its wider digital economy aims as a nation." said Chafic Nassif, Head of Market Area North East Asia, Ericsson.
