Ericsson says it intends to expand its research and development operations in Japan, with an initial focus on creating up to 300 roles linked to advanced radio access network (RAN) development. The investment will support the build-out of high-performing programmable 5G networks and reinforce Japan’s position within its global connectivity ecosystem of partners, suppliers and customers.
The R&D initiative is expected to enhance Ericsson’s local presence and build on ongoing partnerships in Japan, including its collaboration with universities on 6G research. The company adds that the planned investment underlines the strategic importance of the Japanese market and its intention to accelerate digital infrastructure development through Open RAN-ready solutions.
“Japan has a rich technology ecosystem and a strong talent pool, which is conducive to building a strong R&D presence in the country.” said Per Narvinger, Executive Vice President and Head of Ericsson Networks.
