Breedon Group plc has launched a three-month trial of a fully electric ready-mix concrete vehicle at the Raisby quarry in County Durham. In partnership with Putzmeister and Zenobē, this initiative supports Breedon’s net zero strategy. The iONTRON eMixer, featuring a 350kWh battery from SANY, offers around eight hours of operation per charge and reduced noise emissions. It has a 9m³ drum, providing performance similar to conventional mixers.
Zenobē will supply a 120 kWh charging unit and monitor the vehicle's performance. This trial aims to advance Breedon's understanding of electric vehicles and their potential for reducing emissions in the quarrying and construction industries, potentially leading to broader adoption of such technologies.
“At SANY and Putzmeister we’re not just building machines reducing emissions, we’re building a cleaner future for people. Used in urban areas our eMixer will outperform diesel mixers on noise levels as well as TCO and we are very excited to bring this into action together with Breedon.” said Kevin Eichele, Head of Business Development at SANY eTrucks.
