Skanska to Build Detention Center in Kalmar, Sweden


Skanska has been awarded a contract by Skandrenting to construct a new Detention Center for the Swedish Correctional Service in Kalmar. The project, which will also house premises for the national transport unit (NTE), is valued at approximately SEK 620M and will be included in Skanska Sweden's order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2024.

The seven-floor building will cover approximately 12,400 square meters, featuring not only inmate cells but also activity rooms, healthcare facilities, a commercial kitchen, offices, and a garage. It is located near the local police station.

Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2024, with completion expected by September 2027.
