Mammoet has played a key role in the ongoing upgrade of Concourse D at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, supporting efforts to widen the 1980s-era structure without disrupting daily operations. The company worked closely with contractor Holder-Moody-Bryson-Sovereign, JV to transport prefabricated modules using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) in overnight shifts.
A mile-long route was used to move each module—some weighing nearly 700 tons—to its final location, where they were lowered using climbing jacks beyond the stroke limits of the SPMTs. This approach, Mammoet says, allowed airport operations to continue as normal while also delivering efficiency and scheduling benefits associated with offsite construction.
The completed project will add over 87 meters to the concourse, creating more space for passengers and services and accommodating larger aircraft. Mammoet highlights its previous airport-related work, including gate transport in Dallas, a terminal expansion in Portland, and skybridge installation in Hong Kong.
