ACCIONA, together with partners Amico and Alberici, has been awarded a major contract by Metrolinx to deliver the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension in Toronto. The project adds 9.2 kilometres to Line 5 Eglinton and includes the construction of seven new stations, four of them underground, linking Mount Dennis Station with Renforth Drive. Engineering design is being provided by WSP as part of the wider consortium effort.
The extension is a significant investment in urban transport infrastructure aimed at strengthening connections between Toronto and Mississauga. When completed, it is expected to shorten travel times for passengers while supporting environmental objectives. Ontario transportation authorities estimate that the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 5,800 tonnes annually, alongside a reduction of 6.5 million vehicle trips each year.
Trillium Rail Partners, the consortium led by ACCIONA, Amico and Alberici, will also manage the integration of operational and control systems, signalling, communications, and data networks for the extended line. This approach is intended to deliver a modernised, efficient, and sustainable light rail system as part of the city’s long-term transport strategy.
