Siemens Mobility has secured four contracts with HS2 Ltd, valued at approximately €670 million, to deliver key infrastructure and long-term maintenance for Britain's second high-speed rail line. The contracts cover signaling and traffic management, an engineering management system, high-voltage power supply, and operational telecommunications and security. As part of the Rail Systems Alliance, Siemens Mobility will introduce Automatic Train Operations (ATO) over the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 on a high-speed network for the first time, enabling semi-automated train operations to enhance capacity, punctuality, and energy efficiency.
In collaboration with Costain Ltd, Siemens Mobility will provide high-voltage power supply systems, supporting the reliable operation of the new railway. Additionally, the company will deliver a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for real-time monitoring of railway equipment, improving reliability and efficiency. The contracts, expected to begin in 2025, include long-term maintenance agreements of up to 15 years.
“HS2 is set to transform rail travel by offering faster and more reliable passenger journeys and freeing up freight paths in the UK. We are very proud to provide our wayside ATO over ETCS solution, enabling semi-automated train operations for improved capacity, punctuality, and energy efficiency on high-speed travel for the first time. Furthermore, we will deliver cutting-edge electrification technology and maintenance support for this groundbreaking project," said Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility.
