SSAB and Putzmeister Partner on Fossil-Free Steel

SSAB has entered an agreement to supply Putzmeister with fossil-free steel for use in concrete pump trucks and mixers. The collaboration aims to reduce emissions in construction equipment by replacing conventional steel with SSAB’s HYBRIT®-produced material, made using green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coking coal.

Putzmeister has previously integrated SSAB’s Strenx® high-strength steel and Hardox® wear plates to enhance durability and reduce weight in its equipment. The transition to fossil-free steel is intended to further lower the carbon footprint while maintaining performance. More details on the initiative are available through the company’s website.

“We are delighted to welcome Putzmeister as a global partner. By choosing steel produced with HYBRIT® technology, Putzmeister is demonstrating that it is possible to reduce the carbon footprint of construction equipment while maintaining high steel quality,” said Thomas Hörnfeldt, VP of Sustainable Business at SSAB.
