SSAB says that Hardox® 500 Tuf offers improved strength and reduced weight for excavator buckets and attachments. The combination aims to give manufacturers a way to build lighter buckets with increased capacity, supporting faster cycle times and higher productivity on site. The company highlights that this applies to both wheel and track excavators, as well as front and backhoe loaders working in applications ranging from road construction to infrastructure development.
A key point emphasised by SSAB is the potential to reduce or remove internal liners and additional wear packages when the bucket body is produced entirely from Hardox® 500 Tuf. This can streamline fabrication, reduce welding, and cut production costs, while still maintaining wear resistance in abrasive digging conditions. Field data suggests that optimised material thicknesses in a lighter bucket can contribute to reduced fuel consumption and improved operational efficiency.
SSAB also offers technical support for OEMs and contractors aiming to redesign or upgrade excavator buckets using Hardox® 500 Tuf, including guidance on structural optimisation and production methods.
