Komatsu Highlights Historic Shovel at Elko Facility

Komatsu has installed a P&H 2100BL electric rope shovel as a permanent display at its Elko, Nevada, facility, underscoring the company’s long-standing role in heavy earthmoving machinery. The 1979-built shovel, relocated from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, stands as tall as a five-story building and weighs over a million pounds. Positioned prominently along Interstate 80, it illustrates the scale and capability of equipment used in moving large volumes of material and highlights Komatsu’s ongoing presence in supporting heavy construction and mining operations in the region.

The Elko service center has seen a total investment of $57 million since its 2019 opening, expanding maintenance, parts, and warehouse capabilities to support haul trucks, hydraulic and electric shovels, and other large machinery. The facility reinforces Komatsu’s ability to provide regional customers with equipment support for earthmoving and other heavy construction tasks.

“The P&H 2100BL electric shovel is a remarkable piece of engineering. Its journey from Milwaukee to Elko marks a significant moment in our company's history,” said Tom Suess, Komatsu’s Vice President and General Manager for U.S. Mining Distribution.
