Hägglunds has introduced Hägglunds Thunder, a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous torque motor designed to complement its existing direct drive solutions. The motor delivers high torque across a wide speed range, from standstill up to 300 rpm, and can provide up to 4,300 kW of power. Fully electric and frequency-controlled, it offers near-constant efficiency and can sustain short-term overloads of up to 200%, providing an alternative path to the performance, reliability, and flexibility associated with Hägglunds’ electrohydraulic drives.
The PM synchronous design supports applications requiring both torque and variable speed, making it suitable for operations where compact, efficient, and dependable power is critical. Nominal torque reaches 200 kNm, and the motor can operate effectively from 30 rpm upward. The system is designed to maintain consistent performance even under high loads or unpredictable conditions.
“PM synchronous motors are a well-known technology with untapped potential in heavy-duty industrial applications. Our focus on dependable and versatile direct drive solutions hasn’t changed, nor will it. But with Hägglunds Thunder as a complement to our electrohydraulic portfolio, we can offer a true Hägglunds solution with somewhat different drive characteristics. That provides new answers to specific customer challenges.” said Tor Jensen, Vice President Hägglunds Global Sales.
