ABB has announced the approval of its emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company submitted updated scope 1, 2, and 3 targets for 2030 and 2050 as part of its sustainability efforts. This approval indicates ABB's alignment with science-based approaches consistent with the Paris Agreement.
SBTi has approved the following targets: by 2030 ABB aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 CO2e emissions by 80% from a 2019 baseline and absolute Scope 3 emissions by 25% from a 2022 baseline. By 2050, the company plans to achieve a 100% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to 2019 levels, a 90% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from 2022 levels and reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain.
“As a technology leader in electrification and automation, ABB is at the core of accelerating the energy transition. We are committed to reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 80 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050 and have already achieved a 76 percent reduction versus our 2019 baseline.” said Anke Hampel, Group Head of Sustainability at ABB.
