Sandvik Launches iNav Total Station for Tunneling Drills

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions has introduced iNav total station, a new navigation solution for tunneling drills in underground environments without GPS. Designed for Sandvik i-series jumbos, the system enables operators to determine drill position using total station measurements, aiming to improve accuracy and efficiency. Controlled via Bluetooth® from the drill’s onboard interface, it allows operators to handle navigation independently without prior surveying experience.

iNav total station integrates with Sandvik DrillConnect to streamline data transfer between drill rigs and surveyor systems. This feature facilitates fleet-wide coordination by enabling efficient sharing of fixed-point coordinates, says the company The system is available as an option on select Sandvik tunneling drills and can be retrofitted to existing units.

“iNav total station improves accuracy and efficiency by integrating navigation directly into the drilling process,” said Sirpa Launis, Product Manager for Tunneling Drills at Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions.
