Bobcat has unveiled a new generation of 1–2 tonne mini excavators as part of its R2-Series line. The updated models — including the E16, E17z, E19, and E20z — are designed to replace the company’s M-Series machines, offering upgraded hydraulic performance, reduced noise and vibration, and transport-friendly weights. According to Bobcat, these updates reflect over three years of development and incorporate more than 500 new components.
The machines feature a new SmartFlow hydraulic system, which combines a load-sensing pump with a closed-center control valve to allow smooth, simultaneous operation of demanding attachments. Bobcat states that this system brings larger-excavator power to compact platforms, while reducing fuel use by up to 18% and sound energy by half. Models such as the E17z and E20z are aimed at users working in space-restricted environments, including urban and historic areas, and all units are compatible with a new line of trenchers and augers launching later this year.
“We reduced the operating noise by up to 3 dBA compared to the previous generation. This represents a significant decrease of 50% in sound energy, meaning a noticeably quieter machine on the job site. This not only enhances operator comfort but also reduces noise impact on surrounding environments, making the excavator better suited for urban and noise-sensitive areas.” said Robert Husar, Product Line Director for Bobcat in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
