BASF and Sika Announce New Epoxy Hardener

BASF and Sika have jointly developed a new amine building block for curing epoxy resins, commercially available under BASF’s Baxxodur® EC 151 brand. Designed for use in flooring applications such as production plants and parking decks, the product offers low viscosity and improved flow properties, helping reduce the need for thinners and enabling the formulation of coatings with up to 90% fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than conventional options.

According to the companies, coatings formulated with Baxxodur EC 151 cure efficiently across a wide temperature range and resist the blushing effect often seen in edge areas. Sika has integrated the hardener into its Sikafloor® product line, while BASF has developed and scaled the associated manufacturing process.

“The development of Baxxodur EC 151 is further evidence of how we are supporting our customers in their green transformation. Working with Sika, we bring our extensive chemistry expertise to successfully implement new sustainable solutions through scalable and cost-efficient processes.” said Vasilios Galanos, Senior Vice President, Intermediates Europe, BASF.
