bauma 2025 - JCB Powertrain to Showcase Hydrogen Technology

JCB Powertrain will present its latest developments in hydrogen combustion technology at bauma. The company says that it is the first in the construction sector to develop a fully operational hydrogen-fueled combustion engine, with more than 130 evaluation units already powering machines such as backhoe loaders, Loadall telescopic handlers, and generator sets. Alongside this, JCB will display a complete powertrain assembly featuring its 448 Stage V diesel engine, transmission, and axles, which is available to original equipment manufacturers as a full system or as individual components.

JCB has also secured regulatory approvals across Europe for the commercial use of its hydrogen combustion engine in construction equipment. Real-world testing is now underway at customer sites. At bauma, JCB Powertrain experts will be on hand to discuss potential applications of hydrogen technology and powertrain solutions for various industry sectors.

"We have developed a solution that allows us to harness hydrogen’s potential in a way that is practical and cost-effective for construction and beyond. With machines already undergoing rigorous testing, we are making real progress in demonstrating hydrogen’s viability as a clean energy source for industry." said Graeme Macdonald, JCB CEO.
