JCB has introduced the VM118D, a new 12-tonne single drum soil compactor that combines components from its existing global range to form what it describes as a versatile, emissions-compliant platform. The machine is powered by the 55kW JCB 430 diesel engine, meeting EU Stage V standards without requiring Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) or Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), a feature the company says reduces complexity and running costs for operators.
Designed with a focus on high compaction performance and operator comfort, the VM118D offers up to 256kN of centrifugal force, a redesigned ROPS/FOPS cab with touchscreen display, and a 4-mode traction system for up to 55% gradient capability. JCB also highlights the inclusion of its INTELLICOMPACTION system and five-year LiveLink telematics as part of the standard package.
According to the manufacturer, the VM118D combines durability and ease of maintenance, with a drum assembly and engine layout developed to support visibility and ground-level servicing. The machine is also designed with global markets in mind, integrating design features from models used in both non-legislated and Stage V markets.
