JCB has marked the production of its one millionth engine, a milestone achieved since engine manufacturing began in 2004 at JCB Power Systems in Foston, Derbyshire. Production expanded to Ballabgarh, Delhi, in 2010 and from an initial output of three engines daily, JCB now produces around 500 engines per day. The company say that this scale-up has positioned them as a global producer of diesel engines and a developer of hydrogen combustion technology.
JCB engines have powered machinery across various conditions worldwide and have been instrumental in record-setting projects, including the 2006 JCB Dieselmax speed record for diesel-powered vehicles and the 2019 Fastrac tractor speed record. The company explain that it is also advancing hydrogen engine technology, with a team of engineers engaged in a £100 million development program that has already produced more than 120 engines now under evaluation.
“It was a major decision at the time to make our own engines, and I’m very pleased we made the decision. As we hit the milestone of producing one million engines, the time is right to acknowledge the part my father played in the design, not only of this engine, but other engines which he designed with other people in the past.” said Anthony Bamford, JCB Chairman.
