JCB is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2025, marking eight decades since Joseph Cyril Bamford founded the company in Uttoxeter, UK. From its origins in a small garage producing a tipping trailer, JCB has grown into a global leader in construction, agricultural, and industrial equipment, with manufacturing facilities in multiple countries. The company has been responsible for numerous industry breakthroughs, including the world’s first backhoe loader and pioneering telescopic handlers.
In recent years, JCB has continued to innovate with the development of electric excavators and hydrogen combustion engines. In 2025, the company achieved the first full EU type approval for its hydrogen engine for non road mobile machinery, paving the way for broader adoption of low carbon technology. Milestones this year also include the production of the one millionth backhoe loader and the one millionth engine.
“The story of JCB is one of innovation, ambition and sheer hard work. From small beginnings building agricultural tipping trailers in 1945, to the global force in manufacturing the company has become today, JCB has constantly pushed the boundaries in our desire to be the best.” said Lord Anthony Bamford, Chairman of JCB.
