Two Liebherr luffing jib cranes have played a central role in constructing the 200-metre-tall NKT Tower 3 in Karlskrona, southern Sweden. Supplied from Liebherr’s own rental fleet, the 542 HC-L 12/24 Litronic and 258 HC-L 10/18 Fibre models enabled round-the-clock progress using a four-shift system, allowing the tower to reach its full height in just 90 days. The building is part of a major expansion at what is set to become the world’s largest high-voltage offshore power cable factory.
To meet the tight schedule, Liebherr’s Tower Crane Center and Tower Crane Solutions teams developed a tailored crane concept, including detailed tie-in planning and pre-staged spare parts. The cranes reached working heights of over 210 metres, with configurations optimised for the site’s specific requirements. Coordination between Liebherr and partners in Sweden ensured smooth implementation throughout the project.
“To secure 24/7 operation, we moved key spare parts such as a new fibre rope and various modules directly onto site in advance so that time isn’t lost if these are needed,” said Stefan Gröber, Head of TCC Used & Rental.
