Four high-top tower cranes from Liebherr are playing a key role in the construction of the Ytre Steinsund Bridge along Norway’s Sognefjord. The project, expected to be completed by the end of 2026, will improve connectivity between coastal areas near Hardbakke. The cranes in use include three 280 EC-H 12 Litronic models with hook heights up to 60.3 metres and one 132 EC-H with a 27.5-metre hook height. Their robust design and intelligent control systems allow precise handling of steel and concrete components, even under strong winds and challenging fjord conditions.
The cranes are mounted on a combination of solid concrete foundations and specially designed steel frames, including one cantilevered over the water and anchored to the seabed. This flexibility enables safe lifting operations directly from vessels onto the bridge structure. According to Liebherr, the EC-H series combines reliable performance with adaptable assembly options, supporting the project’s demanding construction schedule.
